1700's to Present -
by the
Westmoreland Historical Society
A reference book about an
historic town first known as the Fort at No. 2
on the frontier of European settlement in the
mid-1700s. Learn about the early and rapid
growth followed by a period of declining
population and then rebirth.
The 1858, 1877 and 1892 maps
of Cheshire County showing locations of
dwellings in the town of Westmoreland with the
owners' names in those years, plus records from
the Registrar of Deeds Office at the Cheshire
County Courthouse in Keene, these were so painstakingly
researched by Anita Aldrich of Walpole,
Marjorie Aldrich Hudson of Westmoreland and Bill
Howland of Keene, are the
sources of the background material of early
Westmoreland houses still standing.
This book contains pictures and a
written narrative of the history of each home
including the original builder and inhabitants
from the late 1700's to present.
